Braised Oxtails – A Rich and Flavorful Comfort Dish

Here’s what you’ll need to make this delicious dish:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 pounds oxtail, cut into 2-inch sections
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 small onion, roughly chopped
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 5 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
  • 2 cups hot water (as needed)
  • Pre-seasoned flour (for dusting)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Brown the Oxtails

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. Dust the oxtail pieces with pre-seasoned flour, shaking off any excess.
  3. Brown the oxtails on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

2. Prepare the Braising Liquid

  1. In the same pot, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Pour in the red wine and Worcestershire sauce, scraping the bottom of the pot to release any browned bits.
  3. Add the beef broth and black pepper, and bring to a rolling boil.

3. Braise the Oxtails
