Braised Oxtails – A Rich and Flavorful Comfort Dish

Here’s what you’ll need to make this delicious dish:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 pounds oxtail, cut into 2-inch sections
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 small onion, roughly chopped
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 5 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
- 2 cups hot water (as needed)
- Pre-seasoned flour (for dusting)
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Brown the Oxtails
- Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
- Dust the oxtail pieces with pre-seasoned flour, shaking off any excess.
- Brown the oxtails on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
2. Prepare the Braising Liquid
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Pour in the red wine and Worcestershire sauce, scraping the bottom of the pot to release any browned bits.
- Add the beef broth and black pepper, and bring to a rolling boil.
